Foil Rock Wool Board is a high-performance thermal and acoustic insulation material designed for HVAC systems. It consists of a dense rock wool core—made from volcanic basalt—factory-laminated to reinforced aluminum foil facing (one or both sides).
Widely used for insulating rectangular and circular ducts, air handling units (AHUs), and plenums, it delivers excellent thermal efficiency, condensation control, acoustic damping, and fire safety.

1. Enhanced Thermal Efficiency
Foil-faced rock wool boards provide excellent thermal insulation with low thermal conductivity (typically λ ≤ 0.040 W/m·K). The aluminum foil facing acts as a radiant barrier, further reducing heat transfer. This minimizes energy loss in ductwork, ensuring conditioned air (heated or cooled) is delivered efficiently to occupied spaces while lowering overall HVAC system operating costs.
2. Effective Condensation ControlThe aluminum foil facing serves as a high-performance vapor barrier, preventing moist ambient air from reaching the cold duct surface. This eliminates "duct sweating," reducing risks of water damage, corrosion of metal ducts, mold growth, and potential degradation of insulation performance in humid environments.
3. Superior Acoustic PerformanceThe dense, open-fiber structure of rock wool effectively absorbs sound waves, particularly fan noise, airflow turbulence, and vibration-generated sounds in HVAC systems. This significantly reduces noise transmission through ductwork into occupied spaces, improving indoor acoustic comfort compared to many rigid or foam-based alternatives.
4. Excellent Fire SafetyAs a Euroclass A1 non-combustible material with a melting point exceeding 1000°C, foil-faced rock wool does not ignite, propagate flames, or release toxic smoke. It provides superior fire resistance compared to combustible foam insulations and helps maintain the integrity of fire-rated assemblies where ducts penetrate walls or floors.
5. Air Quality Protection and Hygienic SurfaceThe aluminum foil facing acts as a complete barrier, preventing the release of rock wool fibers into the airstream—a critical feature for maintaining indoor air quality in ventilation systems. The smooth, non-porous foil surface is also easy to clean, resists dust accumulation, and inhibits microbial growth, making it suitable for applications requiring high hygiene standards.
